County Down is one of those centres about which we hear little. But now we find out that Gemma Murphy has been crowned 2010 Down Rose.
This news comes via the Newry Democrat which has a great piece all about Gemma. It seems she has not decided on her party piece for the regionals in Portlaoise later in the year - " 'I can make balloon animals and ride a unicycle. Although riding a unicycle in a ball gown might be difficult!’ she joked".
And how did Gemma end up in the Down competition anyway? From the article "It all happened after one of the Rose of Tralee organisers Martina Hanna contacted the family’s business Jack Murphy Jewellers on Hill Street to enquire about borrowing a tiara for the competition.
Staff joked that not only would they get a tiara, they’d get a rose and signed up Gemma".
