Limerick Rose, by way of New Orleans

editorial image
Lisa Brady c/o Limerick Leader

The Limerick Leader informs us that, yet again, Limerick has no Rose of it's own attending the Rose Festival. However, Lisa Brady, the 2012 New Orleans Rose, sort of makes up for the absence as she has Limerick roots.

Lisa is studying for a degree in psychology and Spanish. She also does some work at the only Irish restaurant in Tuscaloosa. No, I don't know where it is. But if you go to the Limerick Leader's article you will get the answer and discover a whole lot more about Lisa.

New Orleans News

Yet again we have to thank the Times-Picayune newspaper for updates and photographs about the 2010 New Orelans Rose, Lizzie Wales.

To quote from the article; "My husband and I have been to Ireland before, in fact it’s where we celebrated our honeymoon," Peggy Wales (Lizzies mum) said. "We have close ties to Ireland. My grandmother is from there, and my mother shared many stories with Lizzy about life there. We often joked that Lizzy was meant to be there, and soon we will be going. Juggling her travel preparations and final exams, Lizzy Wales is still very excited and honored to represent the New Orleans area in the Rose competition. I have exams coming up and then after that, I get to go shopping and get ready for the big trip," she said. "It just feels so great to represent my hometown and make my family proud. I have always written book reports on Ireland, studied all about it, and heard about it from my family, and now I get to go. "

As ever, visit the Times-Picayune for more on this story.

New Orleans

"The Times-Picayune" is a great title for a newspaper. They have an item on Megan Busby, 2009 New Orleans Rose.
Speaking of her upcoming appearance in Tralee, Megan said "I'm going to bring New Orleans fun and New Orleans charm, good Southern charm and hospitality."
Something to look forward to.

New Orleans News

Pictured above is Leah Angelle Boyer, the 2008 New Orleans Rose. Leah is very well travelled, having studied in various countries - Paris -France, Poitiers -France, Mons -Belgium, and Nova Scotia, Canada.
And of course Leah has Irish connections. Leah has "very close friends in Co. Tyrone, and I consider Castlederg my second home". Leah's great great grandparents on her mother's side emigrated to America from Co. Mayo and Co. Cavan. Another Irish connection is that Leah has been actively involved with the New Orleans Ulster Project for the last eight years. The intent of the Ulster Project is to break down the walls of intolerance and mistrust that exist in Northern Ireland
We look forward to hearing more.
